Provenance and Authenticity
The Bull and Heifer approaches provenance, attribution, and condition with care, restraint, and transparency.
Works are selected for quality of execution, clarity of subject, and integrity of presentation. Where possible, provenance is recorded and disclosed. Many works have passed through established British auction houses, private collections, or country house sales, and are assessed individually on their own merits.
Attribution is handled conservatively. Descriptions reflect the degree of certainty supported by visual analysis, stylistic comparison, and available evidence, using recognised terms such as attributed to, circle of, or manner of where appropriate. We avoid speculative claims and do not overstate authorship.
Condition is described plainly and accurately. Any restoration, repair, or reframing is noted, and works are examined with an understanding of age, medium, and intended use.
Where applicable, measurements are given both framed and unframed unless otherwise stated, and photographs are provided to show surface, detail, and framing clearly. Additional images or condition reports are available on request.
The Bull and Heifer operates in the manner of a traditional private dealer, valuing accuracy, discretion, and long-term confidence over speed or volume. Our intention is to offer works of character and authenticity, suitable for private collections and considered settings, and to provide clients with clear information upon which to make informed decisions.
